According to her, last year Lithuania managed to attract a record number of direct foreign investments.
Minister of Economy and Innovation Dawn Armonaitė says that Lithuania has managed to remain competitive and attractive to international companies when the region is experiencing extraordinary stress.
"Attracting direct foreign investments that exceeded our expectations and the start of successful cooperation with new markets are important signs that Lithuania remains an attractive partner for international business," A. Armonaitė states in the report.
Among the companies that decided to expand in Lithuania last year, there were mostly information technology companies (34), others - service and manufacturing companies.
Elijus Čivilis, CEO of "Invest in Lithuania", says that the difficult circumstances of the past year are worth looking for new solutions.
"At this time, international companies are looking to optimize their operations, so development locations are considered even more carefully. Although we are happy and proud of the yearly growing FDI numbers, the year 2022 is exceptional in that the circumstances were often really unfavorable", said E. Čivilis.
According to the agency, the main obstacle to attracting international companies to Lithuania is the lack of qualified workforce: we need as many financial and information technology experts as possible - data analysts, artificial intelligence, cyber security specialists, programmers and testers.
The arrival of new foreign companies is also hindered by the lack of offices and infrastructure, inadequate communication with export markets.
