The Klaipėda municipality company "Klaipėdas keleivinis transportas" is looking for water bus services on the Danė river every three seasons. It should start running regularly next summer.
"We are buying a carriage service. Any company that submits a bid that will be awarded the contract will have a master boatman and a water bus boat. They would ferry (passengers - BNS), and we would be the organizer and the customer", Andrius Samuilovas, interim manager of "Klaipėdas keleivanio transportos" told BNS.
According to him, water bus services would be provided by two ships. According to the conditions of the competition, they should be electrically powered, have at least 12 seats and be of a suitable size and height for maneuvering on the Dane River.
According to A. Samuilov, it is planned to allocate up to 100 thousand for water bus services for one season. euros, and a regular water bus should start running next summer.
"Since the coast itself is not yet ready, no stop-piers have been installed (...), everything has moved to the beginning of the next season", said A. Samuilovas.
It is planned that the water bus will run from May to October, and passengers will be able to use it public transport cards.
The water bus would stop at six stops: the old town, the Liepų street bridge, the Danė bend, the KU Botanical garden of the Žolynų residential area, and the Tauralauki bridge. The length of the route along the Danė River is 7,9 km one way, and the maximum travel time for one way is about 60 minutes.
As indicated in the central public procurement portal, bids for the tender are expected until August 8.
