With the rapid depletion of blood groups 0 and A, National Blood Center (NKC) appeals to the country's residents and asks them to donate blood at the nearest branch.
According to NKC director Daumantas Gutauskas, currently the general activity of blood donors in all NKC departments is increased, but the need for blood components used for transfusion in the country's medical institutions is significantly higher than usual.
"At the end of last year, we were happy that the number of blood donors in Lithuania is increasing and this is extremely good news. I want to be happy that the first month of this year is also better than last year. Unfortunately, we see that in order to have a sufficient reserve of O and A blood groups, we need an even greater concentration of donors of these blood groups," D. Gutauskas is quoted as saying in the press release.
All residents of the country between the ages of 18 and 65 can donate blood: men can donate blood six times a year, women - four. True, certain restrictions may apply due to health conditions or recent surgery.
NKC estimates that last year there were slightly more than 40 donors who donated blood, 000 donations were made, and more than 72 liters of blood were collected. in 300 there were a little more than 32 donors who donated blood, almost 500 donations were made, and a little more than 2022 liters of blood was collected.
