The campaign "Radarom!", which changed the history of Lithuanian patronage, is turning into real results: 14 mln. EUR, all 16 radars intended for the defense of Ukraine against Russian aggression have already arrived in Lithuania. Three of them are currently being transferred to Ukraine, the rest are being prepared for transportation and transfer to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Jonas Ohman, head of the Blue/Yellow organization that deals with the purchase and transfer of radars to Ukraine, emphasizes that these are large, special-purpose devices that are not so easy to transfer - it includes documentation, permits, coordination of transport and other nuances.
"We received the first radars back in March, and later, in separate stages, the rest of the shipment reached us. We have sent three radars to Ukraine. Now that we have all the rest, we are preparing them for shipping to Ukraine. We are moving at a good pace, much of the work is done. Taking this opportunity, I would like to repeat once again that I am extremely grateful to all Lithuanian people and businesses who have contributed and continue to contribute to the fact that the morning of victory in Ukraine dawn as soon as possible," says Mr. Ohman.
Although initially it was planned to buy 14 radars with the funds collected during the "Radarom!" campaign, after consulting with the Armed Forces of Ukraine and taking into account their needs, it was decided to adjust the order and purchase 12 regular, stationary and 4 more mobile radars for special tasks.
The procedures for purchasing and sending them to Lithuania took about a month. As Mr. Ohman notes, this is an extremely good result. "Thanks to the activity of our civil society with the help of Ukraine, Lithuania has already managed to earn an exceptional name in the international waters of the defense industry, where much more serious players are diving. Therefore, in some cases, just saying the name of Lithuania makes certain propellers turn faster", J. Ohmanas mentions.
Ukrainians waiting for modern, Israeli-made radars are trained and ready to work with them. In mid-March, a group of Ukrainian soldiers visited Lithuania and took part in special training.
The radars bought with the funds collected by Lithuanians are versatile, they perfectly identify, detect and calculate the trajectories of objects such as missiles or drones. In addition, they can be used to detect other, much closer and smaller objects.
