Every fifth family in Lithuania is at risk of poverty, every seventh inhabitant of the country eats poorly, this is shown by the official data of the Department of Statistics. In order to contribute to the reduction of poverty in the country, “Food bankOctober 25-26 is starting an already traditional autumn campaign - during which the aim is to collect as much support as possible with long-life food products for socially vulnerable Lithuanian residents. The start of the support campaign was celebrated at Maxima in Acropolis, where famous people became volunteers and collected donated goods.
"Every year we notice that "Food bankDuring promotions, the activity of buyers increases. They engage in such actions and are not indifferent to the pain of others. All of our small acts of kindness make a big difference. This is also shown by the numbers: in 2018 a record amount was donated in our stores - more than 180 thousand. euros. "Maximasupports the Food Bank with food products every year, last year alone we handed over food products worth almost 600 thousand. euros", - shared Kristina Meidė, general director of the Lithuanian shopping chain "Maxima".
The event, hosted by Jogaila Morkūnas, was also attended by Maxima's operations manager Irtautė Ščerbavičienė, Simona Bandita, Rolandas Mackevičius, Rimantė Kulvinskytė, Livija Gradauskienė, Vaida Kurpienė and others. They not only collected food products, distributed campaign flyers, but also treated customers with jars of honey. On Friday and Saturday, 142 "Maxima" stores will be able to hand over long-life food products to "Maisto bankas" volunteers. Shoppers are asked to donate protein-rich food: canned meat, fish or similar plant-based food.

The food products collected during this campaign will be distributed among more than 350 non-profit organizations that take care of various socially vulnerable groups of the population: large families, low-income disabled people, the elderly, unemployed, single mothers, and people in social crisis.
"I am happy about the solidarity of the Lithuanian people in order to help the weak. Every day we receive many requests from social workers to help people in critical situations. It is the basket of products collected during the "Maisto bankas" campaign that is the first aid, thanks to which a person in difficulties can breathe at least for a while, knowing that there is no need to think about what to prepare lunch or dinner for the family. I sincerely thank the customers of "Maxima" for their invaluable help," says Simonas Gurevičius, director of "Maisto bankas".
You can also join the "Maisto bankas" campaign in Maximos stores by scanning the campaign flyer at the checkout, which volunteers will hand out at the entrance to the store. With this flyer, 2 euros will be allocated to feed the needy.
