The Ministry of National Defense (KAM) reports for approximately 147 million purchasing air defense systems "MSHORAD" for EUR.
The Defense Resources Agency has signed final agreements with the Swedish company Saab Dynamics for the acquisition of the RBS70 NG (MSHORAD) mobile short-range air defense system, according to a statement issued on Monday.
"MSHORAD is designed to ensure the protection of certain objects, territories and critical infrastructure. The advantage of this system is mobility, so it is a very necessary system that will significantly strengthen Lithuanian army capabilities", - Minister of National Defense Laurynas Kasčiūnas is quoted in the report.
According to the ministry, this acquisition will strengthen the military's ability to counter potential enemy attacks from the air. The system uses Bolide laser-guided missiles, which are immune to electromagnetic interference.
The mobile short-range air defense system "MSHORAD" consists of mobile fire control centers, mobile radars "Giraffe 1X" and mobile fire units RBS70 NG.
The delivery of the system is planned for 2025-2027. Her Lithuanian army will be installed on the armored all-terrain vehicle JLTV.
ELTA reminds that at the end of June, the Cabinet of Ministers decided to allocate an additional 136 million. euros for the acceleration of acquisitions of important military weapons.
Of the planned amount, 51 million EUR is intended to be directed to advance payments for medium-range air defense systems, EUR 45 million. euros for mobile short-range air defense systems and the remaining 40 million euros - for infantry fighting vehicles. Appropriations for the national defense system are allocated from funds borrowed on behalf of the state.
As L. Kasčiūnas stated last week, from the additional 136 million part of the funds will also be allocated to the advance payment for the short-range air defense system "MSHORAD". Yes, according to him, the purchase will take place three years earlier than planned.
