As the weather cooled down and the trees began to shed their leaves, the autumn cleaning season began in the streets of Vilnius. As soon as the first leaves of the trees started to fall, city management companies rushed to the streets and collected and removed almost 2 tons of fallen leaves within two weeks.
"Fallen tree leaves are primarily collected in public spaces, on the roadway of streets and from sidewalks and bicycle paths, thus ensuring safe movement of pedestrians and bicycles. Last year, during the season, from the end of October to the middle of December, more than 6,5 thousand were collected. tons of leaves, we plan to collect the same number of leaves this year as well", says Gintautas Runovičius, Vilnius city municipalities Head of the Department of Urban Management and Environmental Protection.

Leaves are collected and processed in the city by the two companies managing the city, "Mano aplinka" and "Stebulė". These companies collect leaves in big bags and take them to the composting sites of other companies - "Biastra plus" and "Juknevičius Kompostas".
Residents who want to clear their common yards (in private plots) of autumn leaves can contact the companies "Mano aplinka" and "Stebulė" and arrange for the delivery of large bags - the collected leaves will be taken away. However, if the residents manage their yards themselves, they must take away the collected leaves on their own. Leaves must not be thrown into household waste containers or burned.

We recommend composting leaves in composting bins owned by residents, in a specially designated place or, if possible, in common composting facilities jointly managed by several waste holders and installed at their own expense with other recommended waste for composting.
Residents who do not have the opportunity to compost such waste within the boundaries of their land plot can bring leaves to green waste composting sites, the addresses of which are published on the vilnius.lt website.
