Today, the country's largest national charity fundraiser begins - "Food bank” action.
Volunteers in shopping centers and stores in 74 cities will invite customers to buy and donate non-perishable food products to the needy.
350 social organizations will collect food support for those living in poverty under the banner of the "Maisto banka" campaign - among them are the well-known Caritas, the Maltese, the Red Cross, "Save the Children" and others.
Schoolchildren and students, community activists, groups of socially responsible business companies will help to collect food donated by benefactors in stores. During the last "Maisto bankas" campaign, 8650 volunteers were called to help.
Traditionally, during the "Maisto bankas" campaign, residents are asked to donate the most necessary products for daily use with a long shelf life - groats, flour, pasta, oil, sugar, preserves, sweets.
Donated food before St. Easter is distributed to the most needy families. Part of the donated food will go to children's day centers and summer camps. A reserve will also be formed in case of emergency situations to help families who have temporarily lost their source of income, especially those who live far from the big cities of the country.
The 27th organized "Maisto banka" campaign is the largest charity project in Lithuania. According to population surveys, a third of Lithuanians have donated food to the needy at least once. The organizers calculated that more than 140 were donated in the last "Maisto bankas" campaign. together.
On average, a single donation costs around 3,6 euros. The largest number of donations is made in big cities. During last year's "Maisto bankas" actions, the country's residents donated more than one million euros worth of food to feed the needy.
