The building of the former police detention center in Vilnius, on Tado Kosciuška Street, is returning to the National Museum of Lithuania.
"As long as the police needed that building as a detention center, it was a detention center, and now it's just being used by the National Museum. This is a XNUMXth-century building built as part of a closed military complex, and it maintained its function throughout its life," museum manager Rūta Kačkutė told BNS.
According to her, visitors will be able to visit the building of the former detention center this year, but for now she does not reveal exactly what is in the museum's plans.
"It will be possible to visit there in the near future, I can't reveal the secret, we have a secret, but I can say that it will be possible to visit part of the prison buildings this year. Let's hope that we will show more than just the building", said the head of the museum.
There are several buildings on the territory of the former detention center - one of them is intended to be used for new exhibitions of the XNUMXth century, as well as part of the building to be used for changing exhibitions.
The main building of the detention center is also intended to be adapted for exhibitions, as well as to equip premises for the restoration center. His employees currently work in rented premises.
"I cannot say specifically yet, because the project does not exist yet," said R. Kačkutė.
According to her, the buildings of the former detention center were owned by the police under a contract of use, but after the construction of a new detention center in Vilnius in New City, the old buildings were returned to the National Museum of Lithuania.
