Writer Romenas Gari, who was born in Vilnius and twice won the prestigious Goncourt Prize, was remembered today in Vilnius, where the President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nauseda and First Lady Diana Nausėdienė received the first couple of France, President Emmanuel Macron and his spouse Brigitte Macron, who came to Lithuania for an official visit, and exchanged official gifts.
According to the head of the country, France and Lithuania share many historical and cultural ties, prominent world-renowned creators, among them the famous French writer and diplomat Romenas Gari.

The head of the country presented to the President of France the work of the famous Lithuanian sculptor Romuald Kvintos "The Boy with the Galois", based on which a larger sculpture was cast, which now decorates Vilnius and reminds the famous French writer. A gift from the head of France - two volumes of Romen Gari's works in the prestigious series "Pléiade" and a "Pléiade" album in honor of an important personality for Lithuania and France.
The future writer was born in Vilnius. Having spent several years with her young son in Russia, the boy's mother later returned with him to Vilnius and lived there until the future writer was 10 years old. They later moved to Warsaw, then went to France.
In his works, and especially in the autobiographical novel "The Promise of Dawn" (La promesse de l'aube, 1960, English "Promise at Dawn"), Romens Gari warmly and richly tells about the childhood years spent in Vilnius, which had a great influence on the formation of his personality. He graduated from primary school in Vilnius, studied languages and singing privately. In the mentioned novel, the author also reveals the colorful life of Vilnius at that time.
