After vaccination of senior citizens against the coronavirus COVID-19 began in Vilnius, private medical clinics are also waiting for thousands of elderly patients. Together with public sector medical facilities, they are joining the vaccination of seniors, and the process will be organized in the private sector by the InMedica clinic network.

Vilnius city municipalities Viktorija Turauskytė, head of the health protection department, says that private medical institutions can speed up the pace of vaccination and this is now the most important priority.

"According to the latest data, there are 7,6 thousand patients registered in private medical institutions in Vilnius. patients aged 65 and over. We hope that the trust seniors feel in their family doctor, the opportunity to consult with a doctor who knows the health status of a specific patient will make them feel safer and more confident than when communicating with an unfamiliar specialist from a call center. Therefore, we want to provide an opportunity for elderly residents to safely come to the clinic of their choice for vaccination", says V. Turauskytė.

Meanwhile, almost 105 thousand people have chosen public sector medical institutions in Vilnius. for patients over 65 years of age, vaccination is organized by Antakalnis, Centro, Karoliniškii, Naujininkai, Naujosios Vilnias and Šeškina polyclinics.

Gerardas Sakalius, head of InMedica's Vilnius region, says that vaccination is ready.

"Vilnius has become perhaps the first city to decentralize the vaccination of senior members of society, involving the private sector. For us, the social aspect and community are especially important here, which can act as an accelerator of vaccination during a pandemic. Each city and region chooses the most favorable vaccination model for them, but we hope that private sector resources will be used effectively in the future as well. All the more so because the available competences allow us to immediately come to the rescue, - says G. Sakalius and points out that currently all vaccines against Covid-19 in Lithuania are free of charge. - After information about the fact that private medical institutions are included in the vaccination process appeared in the public, we received a number of customer calls and inquiries about the possibility of getting vaccinated with a paid vaccine, so I want to draw the public's attention and emphasize that there are no paid vaccines in Lithuania yet."

This week, all private clinics in Vilnius have been given vaccines produced by Pfizer and AstraZeneca, which will be enough to vaccinate a little over a thousand patients.

"It's not much, but it's very important for us to contribute to the process and become part of it, because we feel a great responsibility to achieve the common goal: to ensure society's resistance to the coronavirus as soon as possible," hopes the representative of the medical network.

G. Sakalius says that he hopes that the supply of vaccines will be regular and the number of doses will gradually increase, thus giving the opportunity to vaccinate all seniors who want it. Most seniors are expected to come to private clinics for vaccinations.

Considering the fact that the storage conditions of the vaccines of the two mentioned manufacturers differ significantly, patients are encouraged to be not only active, but also responsible: contact and consult with their family doctor and strictly follow the arrival time and other instructions of the staff.

For now, Pfizer vaccines require extremely low temperatures of around -80 degrees Celsius to be stored for longer periods of time, which can only be ensured by special freezers. For this reason, the logistics of the Pfizer vaccines will be organized in close cooperation with Santara clinics, from which the required doses will be collected at the scheduled time and delivered to the site.

Meanwhile, AstraZeneca vaccines do not require such low temperatures for even longer storage, so they will be stored in New City, in the recently opened "InMedica" clinic on Vivulskios Street. A large proportion of resources will currently be dedicated to public vaccination needs.

The InMedica group consists of 18 family medical centers, 3 broad profile, 1 specialized cardiology clinic, 2 walk-in clinics and 3 laboratories.
