"LDK rulers" is a continuous series of stamps that began to be issued in 2021. The newly issued stamps depict the three grand dukes of Lithuania - Vytenis, Algirdas and Kęstutis. All of them contributed their important role to the development of the Lithuanian state.
With the efforts of Vytenis, the Livonian Order's attacks on Lithuania were stopped, and Žemaitija was defended from the enslavement of the German Order. In addition, various archaeological researches showed that during his reign, Vilnius began to transform from a small settlement of craftsmen and merchants into a real city.
During his reign, Duke Algirdas continued to fight against the German Order, and he doubled the territory controlled by the Lithuanian state. Algirdas also encouraged the development and trade of LDK cities, and exempted the citizens of Vilnius from customs duties. A little known fact about Algirdas is that he was a strict teetotaler and did not drink beer, wine, mead and other intoxicating drinks.
Kęstutis was the Grand Duke of Lithuania for a very short time - from 1381. end to 1382 middle 1381 after capturing Vilnius in November, he removed Jogailas from power and declared himself the grand duke. However, at the end of the summer of the following year, Kęstutis was treacherously arrested and imprisoned in one of the castles, where he was killed by Jogaila's servants. After his death, Kęstutis was burned in Vilnius according to pagan customs.
