The Ministry of the Interior (MIA) will present a new information campaign in Vilnius on Tuesday about the preparedness of the population and state institutions for a possible nuclear accident, military threats and other disasters.
The presentation of the information campaign "We are a team - we have a plan" will take place at the shelter location at the MK Čiurlionis School of Arts.
"The main goal of the large-scale information campaign is to increase the population's awareness in the field of civil protection, to improve the population's preparedness for possible threats, and to promote the growth of the culture of self-defense," the MIA statement states.
According to the Ministry, the latest sociological study revealed that Lithuanian residents are not prepared for possible disasters: only one-fifth have prepared a departure bag, and one-tenth have a family plan on how to behave in the event of a disaster.
"The times and the geopolitical situation force us all to look at civil security with different eyes. We have to admit that it has been neglected in the past decades, because all threats seemed far from us", says the Minister of the Interior, Agnė Bilotaitė.
"However, today they are nearby or even in our backyard. There is no need to be afraid, to panic, but we must be ready for various scenarios and, if necessary, know a clear plan of action", emphasizes the minister.
One civil safety information campaign was conducted by the Ministry of Interior and the Department of Fire Protection and Rescue last spring. Then, department officials with civil protection specialists planned to visit local communities, schools for a month, meet with elders and social workers, seniors and people with disabilities to give advice on how to behave in various emergency situations, show how to pack the so-called departure or survival bag, help determine alert messages on mobile phones to answer your questions.
