A modern, multi-functional National Concert Hall should be built on Mount Tauros in Vilnius by 2023, it would tentatively cost about 50 million. euros, is expected in the feasibility study of the hall presented on Friday at the Ministry of Culture.
"We don't have such a hall in Lithuania, we need it, considering the experience of contemporary music. In a European country, every larger city should have such a hall," said Vice Minister of Culture Gintautė Žemaitytė.
During the presentation, three options were discussed, similar both in terms of area and specifications. It is planned to build 16 thousand square meters, a four-story building with two floors underground. The planned large hall should accommodate 1500 people, the small multifunctional hall - 500.
"Yes, the third option has already been selected. In the working group, we considered that the National Concert Hall should have a classical hall with natural acoustics, a multifunctional hall, public spaces for public life and a resident orchestra," said G. Žemaitytė.
The large hall would be acoustically prepared for symphonic and chamber music concerts, and the small hall could host various music concerts and performances, the orchestra could rehearse here, and the small hall could also transform the seating and standing areas, and the People's House would be integrated into the building.
498 seats should be installed next to the concert hall parking lot. Currently, there are about 200 parking spaces around the Trade Union Palace, where the National Concert Hall is planned. There are also plans to renovate the nearby Tauros Park.
It is estimated that at most - 35 million. EUR 7 million - hall construction works will start. stage equipment should cost EUR 3 million. euros would be allocated to another technique, the design would save 2 million. euros.
The feasibility study will now be handed over to the Vilnius City Municipality, it will be able to announce an architectural competition together with the Union of Architects, as early as next year about 2 million is planned for the first works. euros.
According to the mayor of Vilnius, Remigijaus Šimašius, the tender is to be announced in the coming weeks, the procedure for taking over the building will also be started, after which the building demolition work will begin.
"I don't want to speculate. There is no need to delay, of course, in principle I can say that in any case it will be this winter or next winter," Vilnius mayor told BNS.
It is planned that the foundation of the National Concert Hall will take place in 2023. It is likely that the State Symphony Orchestra would reside in the hall.
