Street Music Day returns to Vilnius - a celebration when everyone who wants and knows how to play goes out into the streets, squares and squares. May 21 the streets of the capital will be drowned in the sounds of various music, and the spectators of the festival will enjoy the performances created by the musicians.
This year's Street Music Day will be dedicated to Ukraine. According to Viktorija Mamontovaitė, the organizer of the event, such a decision was determined by the desire to support Ukraine in the fight for freedom.
"Music is a universal language - everyone understands it. Street Music Day is a great platform to talk about what is happening right now in Ukraine. We bring back 2014 for the visual. The poster created by Tad Černiauskas, Deimantė Litvinaitė and Aistė Jūres for Street Music Day to draw attention to the war that has been going on for 8 years. We cannot stop and must support the Ukrainian people defending their freedom in every possible way. It hurts to see a great nation being destroyed so mercilessly", said V. Mamontovaitė.
The organizers of the festival say that GMD is a very important festival in Ukraine, which was attended by about 60 cities every year, so it is expected that Ukrainian musicians who are currently in Lithuania will not be afraid to join the street scene. On May 21, everyone is invited to go to the streets and play music - amateurs and professionals, regardless of whether they play rock, pop music or traditional music.
As every year, Street Music Day in Vilnius will start at 12 o'clock. All shows and a map can be found on the GMD website or on the free walking app #walk15. The creator of the app, Vlada Musvydaitė-Vilčiauskė, is happy that the Street Music Day opens up the opportunity to combine walking with engaging educational activities.
"The app was born as a tool to encourage you to go and explore. We are very happy that the Street Music Day map placed in it every year becomes like a route, encouraging people to go out not only to move or to look at their city with a new perspective, but also to discover music", says V.Musvydaitė-Vilčiauskė.
The program organized by the bars "BIX", Artistai" and "šPUNKa", the nightly selection of artists of the Vilnius Hive, the performances organized by the cool Mickevičius library, have not disappeared from the map of Vilnius Street Music Day. For the first time in the history of GMD, the holiday will be greeted by a symbolic flight of one of the acrobatic flying team "Iron Wolf Aerobatics" over Vilnius, congratulating Vilnius residents and guests of the city on the GMD and inviting everyone to take off for the freedom of Ukraine.

The JUDU team invites you to move green through GMD
The JUDU team invites residents and guests of the city to use sustainable transport: buses, trolleybuses, bicycles, scooters or on foot. Festivals like Street Music Day gather thousands of people in one part of the city, so if you arrive to the action in the city center by car and get stuck in a traffic jam or can't find a place to park, the cheerful and festive mood can be replaced by disappointment and even anger. Let's move green - let's not pollute Street Music Day with car exhaust and leave parking spaces for musicians' performances.
Two musical processions will take place in Vilnius
Vilnius Street Music Day will not be complete without the very important march of wind instruments organized by "Drum2gether" and "Mood Sellers" group, which have already become a tradition.
