Breakdancer Dominika Banevič - Bgirl Nicka will carry the flag of Lithuania in the parade of countries at the closing of the Paris Summer Olympic Games. The 17-year-old athlete won silver in the Olympic break tournament just yesterday and thus added to Lithuania's dowry of medals with the fourth medal in these Olympic Games.
"I am honored to have been chosen to carry the flag. I love my country Lithuania very much. Yesterday I danced and tried with all my might to dance for Lithuania and defend its honor, popularize the entire break community. I am glad that I can be a part of history", D. Banevič did not hide her excitement after learning about her new duties at the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games. The break dancer had another chance to celebrate her win with the crowd tonight at the temporary Champions Park in Trocadero Square. Stepping on the catwalk, Bgirl Nicka charmed everyone once again with an impromptu dance.
In total, Lithuania already has 4 medals in its tally - silver was also won by discus thrower Mykolas Alekna, and bronze medals were won by rower Viktorija Senkutė and the 3×3 basketball team. Basketball players were already greeted by a huge crowd in the LTeam fan zone at White bridge, and the meeting of V. Senkutė and M. Alekna will also take place in the fan zone tomorrow, from 20.30:XNUMX p.m., when the break dancer and the rest of our Olympians in Paris will prepare to enter the Stade de France stadium for the closing ceremony.
"Our break dancer captivated the whole world with her talent. We watched her performance live ourselves, the full arena simply roared in support of Dominika from Lithuania, the Olympic vice-champion. I have no doubt that after watching her performance on the TV screen, they were impressed by her talent. Because of this, we decided to choose her as the flag bearer for the closing ceremony. I think that everyone will be proud to see how majestically the Lithuanian tricolor flutters at the closing ceremony, when it will be carried by our young break dancer.
We don't always have the opportunity to choose flag bearers based on merit, because a lot depends on the arrival and departure times of the athletes, but now we are very happy that we will be able to honor our Nick in this way," said Daina Gudzinevičiūtė, Olympic champion and president of the Lithuanian National Olympic Committee (LTOK).
The president of the LTOK also summarized the current achievements of Lithuanians at the Paris Olympic Games.
"These Olympic Games in Paris are a real sports celebration for all of us and are really fruitful with excellent performances by our Lithuanians. Lithuania already has 4 medals, although some Lithuanians are still waiting for their battles on the last day of the Olympic Games. Most of all, we would like to celebrate each of our Olympians, who did everything to be able to compete here with the world's elite.
Many of our professional sportsmen and women have given their all to be among the world's elite gathered in Paris. Respect must be given to each and every one of them - a lot of hard work remains invisible. How much sweat was shed and successes and failures experienced on the way to Olympus. Each and every one of you is cool and we are very proud of you", said the LTOK president.
In the exceptional opening ceremony, the Lithuanian flag bearers were the rider Justina Vanagaitė and the sailor Rytis Jasiūnas when the delegations were transported by boat on the river Sena. Already in the second Summer Olympic Games, both male and female athletes were entrusted to carry the flags of the countries at the opening ceremony.
On the very last day of the Paris Olympic Games, August 11. the Lithuanians are still waiting for the start - the final of the modern pentathlon will be held, in which two Lithuanian representatives Laura Asadauskaitė-Zadneprovskienė and Gintarė Venčkauskaitė will take part. Track cyclist Olivija Baleišytė will compete in the omnium event. The closing ceremony at the Stade de France Olympic Stadium will begin at 22 p.m. Lithuanian time.
