I am sending information about the fact that Vilnius Lyceum alumni have established the Vilnius Lyceum Alumni Support Fund with inviolable capital and invested 1 million euros in it. The goal of the fund is to actively cooperate with the school, contribute to the diversity and high quality of education provided at the Lyceum, and finance scholarships for talented alumni.
The Vilnius Lyceum Alumni Support Fund was founded and became the shareholders of four members of the Lyceum community – long-time German teacher Irena Juozapavičienė and three former students. They are one of the founders of the Lyceum Alumni Scholarship and consultant of the international company “Oliver Wyman” Domantas Jankauskas, businessman, co-founder of the companies “Eldorado” and “Humbility”, professional racer Vladas Jurkevičius and neuroscientist Prof. Urtė Neniškytė, working at Vilnius University At the Life Sciences Center.
The fund's investment strategy is managed by a voluntary board consisting of three Lyceum alumni – Mindaugas Jusius, partner at the investment management company Prosperus, investor Mindaugas Pranskevičius, and Mindaugas Mažeikis, investment strategist at INVL Family Office, a member of the VU Foundation Investment Board, and a member of the INVL Family Office, a leading asset management group in the Baltics. In implementing the investment strategy, the fund will also cooperate with INVL Family Office, which will provide services pro bono.
"We want to mobilize the school's alumni community, continue the successful scholarship project, and contribute to supporting high-quality education at the Lyceum. The foundation's vision is to accumulate intangible capital worth 100 million euros. The return on investment will allow us to significantly support the initiatives of the Lyceum and alumni," says Vladas Jurkevičius, a shareholder of the foundation.
From personal initiative to one of the largest intangible capital funds in Lithuania
"I have been contributing to the Lyceum Scholarship for several years now, and my son Mantvydas has also actively supported it. I believe that it is very important to continue and develop the work we have started, while professionally managing the fund," says Irena Juozapavičienė.
The Lyceum Alumni Scholarship initiative, now in its fifteenth year, began with a desire to give back to the school and its community and to contribute to the culture of charity in Lithuania. Lyceum alumni annually provide support to members of the school community who face financial obstacles in achieving their educational and personal development goals.
The first scholarship fund in 2011 amounted to 4 thousand litas, and last year the scholarship basket already reached 90 thousand euros. 35 alumni have received scholarships, whose support allowed them to study at prestigious higher education institutions around the world - MIT, Sciences Po, Oxford, Cambridge, Columbia universities and elsewhere.
“The idea for the scholarship program came from personal experience – my studies were funded by a sponsor who believed in my academic ambitions. Without his help, I would not have been able to study at Cambridge. A foundation with significant initial capital is a recognition of the scholarship project implemented so far, an expression of the community’s maturity and an opportunity to expand areas of activity. We will cooperate with the Lyceum and contribute to the diversity and high quality of education. The intangible capital fund provides a sustainable basis for long-term support,” says Domantas Jankauskas, one of the founders of the foundation.
Invites others to contribute
Lyceum alumna Ieva Jurkonienė, coordinator of the “Create for Lithuania” program, became the director of the foundation. She is happy that the alumni community is coming together for a meaningful cause:
"This fund is part of the culture of patronage that is currently growing in Lithuanian society. We hope that supporting Vilnius Lyceum alumni will become a long-term tradition that promotes the dissemination of knowledge, experiences, and ideas."
"We hope that this year we will not only continue the scholarship project, but also begin to actively cooperate with the school - inviting alumni to give lectures to students, share professional experience, and help the school attract and retain teachers. Currently, there are two ways to support alumni - providing support for activities or contributing to the intangible capital fund. You can find support instructions on our foundation's page, where you can also donate 1,2% GPM to us," says the foundation's director.
