The new Pavilni community multi-purpose center is planned at the place where the old district library located in Medinuk operated until last year at Garsioji st. 3. In the spring, an architectural competition will be announced for the design of the center, where the library's treasure will be moved and stored, the winners will design the building and the 60-acre space around it.
"The idea of having a multifunctional community center in place of the old Central Library branch in Pavilna has been developing for some time," recalls the Deputy Mayor of Vilnius Tomas Gulbinas, "the need of the citizens of Pavilna to have premises for a community center with a library is clearly justified, and today the community has concretized its vision - what kind of modern services for the growing district need close to home."
The Vilnius development company, which is preparing for the architectural competition, invited the community of Pavilni to a creative workshop, where together with the representatives of the municipality, residents discussed the identity of the future library, the environmental values that must be preserved during the development of the project, the layout of spaces for various activities that meet the needs of the community. The community stated that the new center must be built in such a way as to fit into the architectural context of Pavilni, and trees must be preserved as much as possible on the plot, and a park and recreational areas must be created.
"The community greatly appreciates the opportunity to contribute and express their needs at the very beginning of the idea, because it is the people living here who will use the library and the facilities and services of the multipurpose center," says Rytis Pajaujis, representative of the Pavilni community.
According to the captured ideas and proposals, a technical task for the designers in the architectural project competition will be formulated.
"A city cannot be created without dialogue and mutual communication with the citizens. When developing projects, whether they are schools, kindergartens or cultural centers, we see the community as an equal partner contributing to the success of the implementation," says Laurynas Kazarauskas, Project Manager of the Vilnius Development Company.
During this year, the Vilnius Development Company organized seven creative workshops with communities in whose territory kindergartens and schools will be built or renovated. Before the architectural project competition was announced, meetings were held with the communities of Pavilni, Balsiai, Šnipiškii, Verkii, Perkūnkiemi, Žvēryna and Pilaitė.
