After the snow melts, Vilnius municipality territory management specialists and ward staff continue to check whether the city's squares and courtyards are properly maintained. From the beginning of the year until now, hundreds of reports have been received from residents about improperly maintained areas - in January alone, more than 224,5 thousand has already been allocated to companies managing the city. EUR fines, the municipality announces.
The three companies that worked in the capital have been joined by three more since January. Vilnius is currently managed by the companies "Stebulė", "VSA Vilnius", "Mano aplinka", "Ecoservice", "Ekonovus" and "Šilėja".
In January, when the paths and courtyards of Vilnius were covered with snow and bare ice formed due to fluctuating temperatures, the capital was poorly maintained - in some places, the pedestrian paths were not sprinkled or not properly cleaned.
"This winter was difficult in terms of managing the city, as the temperature often changed from positive to negative and vice versa. Such weather conditions are particularly dangerous, as ice is formed. Companies managing the city were challenged to react instantly and anticipate possible dangers in advance. Unfortunately, not all companies have managed, as evidenced by the amount of fines imposed. We communicate with companies constantly, we remind them what the standard of the capital is. If the situation does not change, we will make appropriate decisions regarding further cooperation", says Gintautas Runovičius, Head of the Department of Urban Management and Environmental Protection.
Bicycle paths, sidewalks and other hard surfaces maintained Vilnius city municipality in winter, the area is over 4 million square meters. Companies must clean this area immediately, as well as the approaches to the waste containers in the yards.
The municipality's announcement reminds that if you notice sidewalks, yards or squares that have not been cleaned for a long time in the city, you must first notify the municipality.
