Vilnius city municipality this spring, renovation works will be undertaken at the stadium in Kaukysos street. As multi-apartment buildings are rapidly rising in the surrounding streets, it was decided to provide publicly accessible, high-quality sports infrastructure for residents in the new micro-district, so the capital city municipality announced a public procurement for the purchase of the necessary equipment.
"The city is a rapidly changing organism that must adapt to the needs of the population. For a long time, the area where this stadium is located was industrial, but now it is undergoing a drastic transformation. Seeing that the Paupios, Aukštaičiai and Manufaktūr streets are rising apartment buildings, we decided to bring the sports infrastructure closer to the people, turning an old, little-used stadium into a modern, open sports space", says the Vice Mayor of Vilnius Valdas Benkunskas.
According to the vice mayor, the existing stadium is characterized by an old asphalt running track of an atypical shape, an asphalt basketball court and a poorly maintained natural grass soccer field. However, the playground is located on a plot right next to the Vilnius River, in a beautiful location, so it has the potential to become an attractive place to spend time.
At the stadium, the first plan is to renovate the running track, replacing the old asphalt with a softer surface. After the modernization, the running track will also surround a basketball court with a soft surface, two new beach volleyball courts and a football field with an artificial surface. There will also be a space for modern fitness equipment, a couple of pétanque courts, and four table tennis tables.
There will be space in the stadium for those who want to spend their time more quietly - benches will be built around the courts, allowing for comfortable watching of training, as well as four chess tables. A little further away, there will be two padel pitches enclosed by special walls. Publicly available cards will not have analogues throughout the city. All sites will be free and open to residents.
"We expect this facility to be extremely popular after the renovation, and in order to make it last as long as possible, we will be investing a lot in more durable materials and quality equipment, as well as exercise equipment with a fifteen-year warranty," he notes. V. Benkunskas.
The municipal company UAB "Beam". It is planned to allocate 120 thousand for the works. euros. It is planned to spend another 225 thousand for the purchase and installation of equipment. EUR without VAT. The equipment and its installation service providers will be selected through a tender process.
