Today In Pilaite the exclusive, fundamentally renovated sports field of the Pilaitė gymnasium was opened. The renovated stadium is distinguished by an inflatable dome, which will allow both young football talents and students of Pilaitė Gymnasium and the local community to play football and athletics throughout the year.
In the cold season, after the dome is inflated, the field will turn into a football playground of Pilaitė Gymnasium. The unique 110-meter-long, 70-meter-wide and 19-meter-high dome will enable athletes to train all year round. The dome will be inflated before each winter season and deflated in the spring. Modular changing cabins with showers were built next to the playground, and the basketball court and athletics area were renovated outside.
Vice Mayor of Vilnius Valdas Benkunskas stated that the Pilaitė football arena uses new technologies in the Vilnius sports infrastructure. As Maniež's activities develop successfully, similar covered stadiums will appear near other schools in the capital.
"Today we are opening a sports arena that stands out not only for its appearance, but also for its quality infrastructure. The playground will be used by the students of Pilaitė Gymnasium, after school pupils of the capital's football schools will train here, and at other times the district community will be able to play sports on the playground," said Vilnius City Vice Mayor Valdas Benkunskas.
The reconstruction of the Pilaitė football arena cost 2,25 million. euros. Vilnius city municipality allocated 1,5 million to the playground project.
