The declarations of the Vilnius authorities about the "climate-neutral city of Vilnius" and its greening yesterday only once again demonstrated that all these statements are just public relations campaigns that have nothing to do with real actions to take care of the health and safety of Vilnius residents.
It is not the first time that the capital of Lithuania is struggling with the consequences of fires, but the authorities are doing nothing to prevent such disasters. One such solution is video surveillance systems installed in waste storage and storage areas, providing real-time access to environmentalists. This should be initiated by the Ministry of Environment throughout Lithuania - the resources used in this way would bring much more benefits and ecological safety to society than the current inspection of car drivers carried out by environmentalists.
In the meantime, the Vilnius city government must inventory all landfills in the city center as soon as possible and apply to the Minister of the Environment to cancel the permits for the landfills here - the city cannot risk people's health and paralyzed lives.
Although the causes of the fire that occurred in the territory of "Lietuvos Geležinkėlių" are still being investigated, landfills of this type are often objects of increased risk, not only because of dangerous waste, but also because the business can solve expensive waste disposal with the help of fire. Therefore, we urge you to take action as soon as possible regarding the construction waste dump in Salininkai, whose residents have been warned by the authorities several times about the danger to their health.
