While preparing for the opening of Vingriu square in the capital in October, the Vilnius municipality took over the one located next to it MO Museum sculptures.
This week, the municipal council decided to take over seven works from the museum under the contract of use: Jonas Aničs' "Observer", Mykolas Saukas "Eels", Nerijas Ermins's sculpture "The Submerged", Tauros Kentsmin's "Island", Beatričės Mockevičiūtė's "Asuka", Petros Mazūrs's "Tulip". and Vytautas Viržbickas' piece "Black Rubber".
The municipality promises that the newly constructed Vingria Square between Pylimo and Mindaugas streets will become an open-air exhibition of contemporary sculptures. The new exposition on the walking path near the historical source of Vingria will complement the sculpture park already established by the initiative of the museum.
The works are estimated from 4 to 16 thousand. euros, their total value is almost 60 thousand. euros. They were handed over to the company managing the museum "VB investicijos" for 20 years, with the possibility of extending the contract for another five years.
Milda Ivanauskienė, director of the MO Museum, says that the sculptures that will be located in Vingriu Square have not been exhibited in other spaces before, some of them were created specifically for this space, taking into account its history.
"I have no doubt that the sculptures will give the square a meaningful charge and content, and the place itself will become an even more important cultural point, allowing you to get to know important sculptors of the country up close," said M. Ivanauskienė.
The square is promised to be repaired and opened to the public in October.
In the mentioned territory since the XNUMXth century. from the beginning to the XNUMXth century one of the oldest waterworks in Vilnius operated, from which water was supplied to the city.
In recent years, the square has been reconstructed: sidewalks, viewing paths, children's playgrounds, lighting, benches, small architectural elements, a rainwater network, planted greenery have been arranged.
