"There were no people in the building, so we carried out firefighting operations inside the building," a fire department spokesman noted.
According to N. Statkus, initially, when extinguishing the fire, firefighters were unable to enter the building due to heavy smoke and high temperatures. This, according to the head of the Vilnius Fire and Rescue Board, caused the fire to take a long time to extinguish.
As stated by the Mayor of Vilnius Valdas Benkunskas, it is not yet clear why the fire broke out at the Energesman factory. According to him, the only thing that is clear at this time is that the fire remained inside the building.
"The fire was in the area of the building where the primary waste collection takes place, that is, cars, garbage trucks arrive, unload the waste and load it onto conveyors, so it was in that segment of the building that the fire started," he said. V. Benkunskas.
