Firefighters worked all night and continued to extinguish the fire at the Energesman waste management plant in Vilnius, Gariūnai.
"Firefighting operations were carried out all night, and will continue at dawn today. There was no pause, the fire is being extinguished around the clock, and now it is not completely extinguished, the localization was only announced yesterday. Firefighters need to dig, transport, and transfer all the waste," Konradas Liekis, chief specialist of the Situation Coordination Division of the Fire Protection and Rescue Department, told Elta on Monday morning.
A site has been created next to the company, dry waste is moved to another location, and then transported to its place after burning. Three company forklifts are working.
"The burning, the smoldering is deep, until it is dug up, poured over with water, the smoldering will continue," a firefighter representative told Elta.
According to him, the same forces are working as on Sunday.
The fire was declared localized at 17:30 p.m. on Sunday.
"We need to pour water over the accumulated, combustible waste," commented a representative of the PAGD.
ELTA reminds that on Sunday, at around 7:52 a.m., it was reported that a huge explosion occurred at a waste management plant located on Jočionyų Street in Gariūnai, Vilnius. fireWhen firefighters arrived, garbage at the Energesman factory was burning with open flames.
The fire is being extinguished by a large number of firefighters, assisted by the company's equipment. Environmentalists are working at the scene, police, Vilnius city municipalities representatives.
The mayor of the capital Valdas Benkunskas announced on Sunday that a local state of emergency would be declared due to the fire.
