Vilnius, February 7 (ELTA). On Tuesday, after the director of the Lithuanian National Drama Theater (LNDT) announced in the media about the dismissal of playwright Mariaus Ivaškevičius, M. Ivaškevičius says that he will do everything to ensure that its current director, Martynas Budraičius, does not remain in the theater either.
"You know, I don't know much about my rights yet. But, yes, to M. Budraić, when he offered me to leave voluntarily a month ago, I said that I would leave together with him. Then this morning, together with all the media, I received a letter about the destruction of my position, my dismissal. I don't know how it will be, apparently I will have to leave first, but I will do my best so that Martynos doesn't stay in the theater either," the playwright told LRT television on Tuesday.
ELTA reminds that M. Budraitis, who came to the theater with the now-retired LNDT artistic director Oskar Koršunov and playwright M. Ivaškevičius, announced in the media that, after the direction of the theater's creative activity changed and new artistic directors started working, the duties of playwright M. Ivaškevičius became redundant. Therefore, it was decided that M. Ivaškevičius will no longer work in the theater from 2023. in March, the theater said in a media release on Tuesday.
M. Budraitis told journalists that he did not want to artificially force the new artistic directors of the theater and M. Ivaškevičius to work together.
"After all, Marius and Oskar are really such a creative tandem, and they are really well known to everyone, and they have their own vision, their own vision. When three new art directors came, they also have their own vision and their own direction, and now to artificially force them to work together, I just don't see such a possibility," said the general director.
