Important changes for Vilnius residents
In March, new municipal waste collection containers began to be distributed to Vilnius residents living in individual houses. Although they have already been installed, they will only be available for use from March 29, when waste management will be taken over by Kauno Švara. Individual containers for food waste collection will begin to be distributed to residents in April. Until then, food waste must be sorted into orange bags and disposed of together with mixed municipal waste. Residents can rest assured – the changes will not cause any inconvenience.
"Sufficient time was allocated for a smooth transition and the company is ready for efficient waste collection and transportation in these areas," assures Renata Kaškonienė, Head of the Waste Management Department of UAB "Kauno švaros".
Vilnius city municipalities Eglė Bernotavičienė, Head of the Waste Management Sub-Department, emphasizes that clear information and properly prepared infrastructure will ensure smooth waste sorting, and separating food waste from the mixed waste stream will increase the recyclability of both mixed and food waste.
According to Roberts Lavinskas, head of the Vilnius Waste System Administrator (VASA), residents will not have to abandon the current waste management and sorting practices - some Vilnius residents will continue to collect food waste in orange bags and others in mixed municipal waste containers.
"We believe that we will be able to continue to successfully grow and improve, providing a quality service so that Vilnius city residents do not experience any inconvenience related to emptying food and mixed municipal waste containers," emphasizes Paulius Kapitanovas, Director of City Cleaning and Waste Management at Kauno Švara.
"Kauno švara" follows a responsible approach to environmental protection - the company constantly invests in sustainable waste management solutions, seeks to reduce pollution and promote sorting.
