Gilma Teodora Gylytė, an architect from the studio "DO architects", who has created many greenery in Vilnius' public spaces, fondly remembers her stubbornness to grow a creeper in the yard of Trakai Street. After persuasive talks with the neighbors, a stalk of creeper planted instead of one cobblestone got the right to climb the outdoor stairs and today it colors the yard, and the residents no longer think about the fact that creepers destroy the wall or block the sun. We invite you to think about the benefits created by creepers - beauty and cleaner air Vilnius city municipality, which will plant more than 1000 creepers this year.
First of all, near those walls, fences or facades that are popular with graffiti artists, and this means constant costs for the city to repaint or otherwise treat the smeared walls. Sometimes it is also a way to hide unsightly silicate brick walls.
335 vines have already been planted this month - on Tukstantmecios, Drujas streets and at the steps of Žvērynas waterfront, at the intersection of Upės and Kalvarijės streets near St. Archangel Rapolo Church, where the supporting wall was also repeatedly damaged by graffiti artists. In June and July, creepers will be planted in about 40 more places in Vilnius - another 978 plants, so this year - 1313 creepers: five-leaved vines, round-leaved swags, ivy creepers and evergreen ivy, for which the Lithuanian climate is more and more favorable.
Residents are also encouraged to plant creepers - an undemanding, low-maintenance plant - in places they like. But you really shouldn't try to plant electricity transformers - it's dangerous. If there are questions about the choice of plant or location, it is worth consulting with the municipality (ep [email protected]).
Creepers are also suitable for the walls of apartment buildings, but it is important to discuss the planting of this high "climbing" plant with both the neighbors and the building management company, although, according to greenery specialists, only a small number of creepers affect structurally weak finishes or plaster. From this point of view, ivy is more dangerous, vines hang only on the surface of the wall. Most creepers need supports or cables all the time, so they don't touch the facade, they just create a certain microclimate because they retain more moisture.
