New Vilnius city municipalities The Council will hold its first meeting on Wednesday, where 51 elected members of the Capital City Council and the Mayor of Vilnius will be sworn in at a solemn extraordinary meeting, according to a press release.
20 women and 31 men will work for the benefit of the people of Vilnius in the new Council. 19 of them belong to the Fatherland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democratic Party, the Freedom Party - 9, the "Freedom and Justice" party - 9, the Lithuanian Poles' Election Action - Christian Families Union - 7, the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party - 4, and the National Union - 3.
By taking the oath, the members of the Council and the mayor will promise to respect and enforce the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Lithuania, to faithfully perform all the duties of a member of the Municipal Council and to refrain from actions that violate the rights and public interests of the residents.
The meeting will be chaired by the newly elected mayor of Vilnius Valdas Benkunskas, the report notes.
"First of all, I wish the new Council meaningful, constructive and inspiring work. The ability to listen to the arguments of colleagues, the requests of Vilnius residents and to work closely with the Municipal Administration is extremely important in creating the Vilnius of all of our dreams," he notes.
