At the end of spring, after the trees have shed their leaves, it is planned to remove dry, withered vegetation.
According to experts, most of these trees have died due to diseases, difficult growing conditions – poor, compacted soil, general pollution, and waves of heat. Due to the difficult conditions, some are attacked by diseases and pests.
Sometimes they are also damaged by infrastructure works. Although about 8,9 million euros are allocated annually for the maintenance of the plantations - they are watered, mulched, fertilized, pruned - this is not enough to improve the conditions for all the trees.
Newly planted trees have a two-year warranty period.
According to the Vilnius Greenery Inventory, dead trees account for just 1 percent of all inventoried green spaces. Considering the conditions under which trees grow in the city, the proportion of dead trees is not large.
