Vilnius plans to remove dead trees

At the end of spring, after the trees have shed their leaves, it is planned to remove dry, withered vegetation.

According to experts, most of these trees have died due to diseases, difficult growing conditions – poor, compacted soil, general pollution, and waves of heat. Due to the difficult conditions, some are attacked by diseases and pests.

Sometimes they are also damaged by infrastructure works. Although about 8,9 million euros are allocated annually for the maintenance of the plantations - they are watered, mulched, fertilized, pruned - this is not enough to improve the conditions for all the trees.

Newly planted trees have a two-year warranty period.

According to the Vilnius Greenery Inventory, dead trees account for just 1 percent of all inventoried green spaces. Considering the conditions under which trees grow in the city, the proportion of dead trees is not large.

It is planned to remove the following in the near future:

16 dead lime trees will be removed on Pylimo Street. Four of them have been newly planted and are dead. Two of the lime trees will be pruned.

Four linden trees will be removed on Naugardukos Street, one will need to be pruned. Five dead linden trees will be removed at the intersection of V. Šopena and Kauno Streets, and one linden tree will be removed on A. Jakštos, Pamėnkalnios, T. Kosčiuskos, and B. Radvilaitė Streets.

It is planned to remove two dead maple trees in L. Stuokas-Gucevičius Square, and one dead poplar tree on Paneriai Street.

In Naujininkai, four dead trees will be removed on Salininkai Street, and a dry willow will be removed on Rodunios Road.

In Karoliniškės II, Šimulionio St., a dry rowan tree, two withered black locust trees, one maple tree, and three newly planted trees will be removed.

Two unviable oak trees and five dry rowan trees will be removed on D. Gerbutavičiaus St.

P. Skaryna will remove one dead birch tree in the territory of the gymnasium.

A maple tree that has died due to disease will be removed on Konstitucijos Ave., and there will also be one maple tree in the median strip, which is likely dead due to pollution and summer heat.

Dry pine will be removed in Verkiai eldership, Žaliųjų Ežerų St.

Lazdynas, Two maple trees have died on Architektų St.

In Viršuliškės, Šešuolių g. – dry rowan and lilac.

In Šeškinė, On Oz Street, the newly planted trees have not taken root. They will be removed.

A maple and three linden trees will be removed on Rinktinės St. Four dead trees will be removed on Antakalnio St. According to specialists, they died due to diseases, poor soil, and too little space for the roots to spread.
