More frequent trains and a reconstructed the station – this is exactly what will happen in Nauja Vilnia in the near future. Although everything will be done gradually, the changes cannot but be joyful – finally, train connections will be practical.
Getting to New Vilnius by train is extremely fast, convenient and cheap. It is the only Vilnius region, where you can get there by this means of transport. For years, people have been asking for more frequent trains to this area, and it seems they have finally heard them.
"Currently in New Vilnius all trains on the Vilnius-Kena and Vilnius-Ignalina-Turmantas routes stop there. An average of 24 trains stop at Nauja Vilnius per day. We do not plan any significant changes in the near future, but we are considering options to ensure more frequent connections in the future,” says Tadas Markevičius, AB “Lithuanian railways"Communication partner."
It turns out that the residents of the district are waiting for another innovation. It is planned that next to of the station Bicycle paths, additional parking spaces, new lighting and bicycle storage will be installed.
"Currently, investments are planned for the repair of the underpass. The station infrastructure is also being analyzed and discussions are underway about how the station could look in the future," a company representative comments.
In addition, for the convenience of residents, new train stops are planned to be installed, and bus and train schedules are being coordinated. Also New Vilnius will be integrated into the combined ticket service. Initially, it will be a monthly ticket, which is promised to be introduced to residents soon.
