Vilnius city municipality signed contract works for the reconstruction of sports fields of Gabija and Žirmūnai gymnasiums, the Vilnius development company is responsible for the supervision and development of this project. After the renovation, the sports fields of both gymnasiums will be able to be used not only by schoolchildren, but also by the surrounding residents, and the reconstruction should be completed by the end of next year.
"The reconstruction of these sports fields is highly anticipated by the local communities. In preparation for them, we have redesigned the old spaces and created versatile field systems that will accommodate the fields and facilities of the most popular sports. Although the process was time-consuming, the final result will allow to maximally ensure the needs of school communities and surrounding residents", says the mayor of the city of Vilnius Valdas Benkunskas.
During the reconstruction of the sports field of Gabija Gymnasium, it is planned to install a stadium with a football field, running tracks, jumping pits, a universal basketball square, volleyball courts, two exercise and gymnastics areas with outdoor exercise equipment for active movement and other structures necessary for equipment storage and infrastructure protection.
During the reconstruction of the Žirmūnai Gymnasium sports field, it is planned to renovate the sports field itself, adapt it to the needs of the local community and thus promote active leisure activities. It is planned to expand the boundaries of the existing stadium field, install artificial grass and special surfaces for football, basketball, gymnastics, athletics and beach volleyball activities.
"Žirmūnai gymnasium stadium will stand out with its full-sized football field. The need for such courts in Vilnius is really great. We can see this by looking at the occupancy of analog pitches In Pilaite and in Karoliniškės. Since the plot next to the gymnasium was large enough to install such an object, we set aside time for a radical redesign of the field. First of all, this field will be used as an outdoor sports area, and later we will install an inflatable dome here, which will allow the football field to be used all year round," he noted. V. Next to the renovated field, it is also planned to install non-residential premises for athletes and judges to change clothes and store sports and medical equipment, a lighting system, footpaths, a parking lot with 65 spaces within the boundaries of the school plot and 14 spaces at the entrances.
"In the worn-out and morally outdated stadium of Žirmūnai Gymnasium, the old pitches will be dismantled and replaced with modern infrastructure that meets the needs of the community. Sports infrastructure facilities are one of the priority areas of our company. I am very happy that by 2024 in the end, we will even renovate the sports fields of two gymnasiums", shares Director of the Finance Department of the Vilnius Development Company, Karolina Sakalauskaitė, acting as General Director.
The value of the Gabija gymnasium sports field contract amounts to approximately 1,86 million. euros. The end of the works is expected in 2024. at the end, the project contractor is UAB "Rolana". The value of the Žirmūnai high school contract is about 3,39 million. euros. The works should also be completed by the end of next year, the project contractor is UAB "Sversa".
