Residents are once again worried about the fate of trees. This time – ŽirmūnaiAlthough people say there were reports that trees would be thinned, so many were cut down that they questioned whether the actions were legal. The municipality insists that everything is going according to plan.
The uproar began on a social network, where a resident of Žirmūnai shared a photo of trees being cut down on Žvalgų Street. Cutting down trees is one of the most painful topics for Vilnius residents. Therefore, before an official response was received this time, criticism from residents poured in.
"The removal of unprotected vegetation is underway on a private plot on Žvalgų Street," Gabrielius Grubinskas told the portal. Vilnius city municipalities Media relations specialist.
The municipality heard the residents' concerns and its specialists went to the location to check whether unauthorized actions were indeed taking place on Žvalgų Street.
"After conducting an on-site inspection, no protected vegetation that would require a permit to be removed was recorded," a municipality representative assures.
So this time, residents can relax - only non-preservable trees were cut down, and these actions were coordinated in advance with the Vilnius Municipality.
