On Tuesday, the Director General of the National Museum of Lithuania Rūta Kačkutė and the President and Director of the Louvre Museum, Laurence des Cars, signed a cooperation agreement between the museums, reports The Ministry of Culture.
It is reported that the contract states that the cultural cooperation established and strengthened by the National Museum of Lithuania and the Louvre Museum will mean promoting the exchange of knowledge in the field of museology and implementing various projects, especially on the occasion of the Lithuanian season in France this year.
"The National Museum of Lithuania and the Louvre Museum share similar responsibilities and challenges, so this agreement outlines the perspective of long-term, mutually beneficial cooperation", R. Kačkutė is happy about the opportunities that have opened up.
The cooperation between the two museums will strengthen the connections that have existed so far, because the origins of Lithuanian museology are closely related to the Louvre, notes Indrė Urbelytė, an art researcher at the Kazis Varnelis House-Museum.
The first joint projects will take place in October this year. Among the first plans are training and a general discussion.
In October Lithuanian National Museum will organize the internship of Lithuanian national and state museum specialists at the Louvre. The Louvre will prepare a special program for her, during which she will share good collection curation practices and present innovative solutions for the protection of exhibits.
Another common project is a round table discussion open to the public on the role of European museums during the war organized by the initiative of both museums in the Dominique-Vivant Denon Center of the Louvre in autumn. It will be attended by speakers from Lithuania and France, as well as colleagues from Ukrainian and Polish museums.
The signed contract will be valid for three years and may be extended.
