The Pavilniai and Verkiau Regional Parks Visitor Center was opened to the fanfares of the JD Brass Orchestra.
In the renovated premises of the Verkių manor pavilion, there are nature study rooms and an exposition presenting Pavilnių and Verkių regional parks. Although both regional parks are the smallest in Lithuania, the abundance of cultural heritage and natural values is not inferior to their bigger brothers. When you arrive at the visitor center, you will be surprised to learn how many protected species of animals and plants live in these areas, how they have adapted to live in the city. Not only will you be able to smell the peach-scented insects that waft through the oak groves during mating season, but you'll also see a real anthill! You will have the opportunity to view the mounds from the flight of the bat and create your own terrain! The visitor center of Pavilniai and Verkiau regional parks is located in one of the buildings of the Verkiau manor homestead, therefore special attention was paid to the Verkiau manor homestead. This mansion is more than 600 years old!!! The legends and stories heard here will be enough for even the most curious.
Along with the opening of the visitor center, a photo exhibition dedicated to remembering the period of the Wittgenstein family's reign was also opened. Under the rule of this family in the XNUMXth century. Verkiau Manor flourished and was full of innovations of the time. Upon arrival, visitors will be able to look at the everyday life of those days captured in historical photographs.
The visitor center was established in accordance with the 2014-2020 Cross-border cooperation program of Latvia, Lithuania and Belarus of the European Neighborhood Instrument. The European Union allocates EUR 661680,77 in funding to the project.
