Governments and Vilnius city municipalities representatives are holding a discussion on Tuesday about what to do with the premises of the Lukiški prison in the center of the capital, which was closed in July.
Minister of Justice Elvinas Jankevičius, Mayor of Vilnius will start the discussion in the church in the prison Remigius Šimašius and Minister of Economy and Innovation Virginijus Sinkevičius.
Representatives of the state, municipality, business, and creative industries will present and discuss their visions at the event.
It is being considered that the complex of buildings could be handed over to some institution, so that a museum or some other public space could be established here.
The possibility of giving the buildings belonging to the prison to the Property Bank, which would announce an auction to sell them, is also being considered.
Future government decisions regarding Lukiški prisons are being awaited by real estate developers who see opportunities to build conference centers or hotels here.
The last arrested and convicted prisoners were taken out of Lukiškės prison at the end of June. In total, almost 600 people have been evacuated from here since the beginning of January.
The complex of prison buildings consists of six buildings, including St. Mikalojus Stebukladaris Church, they are included in the Register of Cultural Values.
