Artists, active residents of Vilnius and business representatives are invited to participate in the "Kuriu Vilnių" program and submit electronic applications until June 21 to get financing. The maximum amount allocated for one project is 70 thousand. euros.
Art ideas can be proposed for the whole city, except Old Town and part of New Town. Works of art are especially welcome in residential areas - Grigiškės, Baltupiai, Žirmūnai, Wolffoot, Markučiai, etc.
The artists invited by the "Kuriu Vilnių" program have already created 40 unique art projects for the capital's public spaces. "Kuriu Vilnių" brings together artists who are indifferent to the city, who have the ambition to offer unique ideas for the unexpected spaces of the capital's residential areas and thus reveal the local identity, while also beautifying the city. This year, 500 will be allocated for the implementation of artists' projects. euros.
Art in public spaces creates the face of the city, and the city becomes a work of art, which can be discovered not only in the galleries of the Old Town, but also in the courtyards of the city districts far from the center. The decision to move art from the city's central streets to residential areas reveals not only their cultural potential, but also gives uniqueness to the previously faceless public spaces of the city, and Vilnius residents can enjoy art right in the yard of their apartment building or in the nearby park.
The ideas provided by "Kuriu Vilnių" should promote positive aesthetic and social changes in the local community, gather residents, enliven the environment, activate business participation, creatively renew territories, and encourage discussions on the topic of urban art. The project provides an opportunity to implement creative ideas in various art fields for a wider circle of art creators.
A maximum of three applications can be submitted, they cannot be funded by other sponsorship programs and must not be of a promotional nature.
Among the works of art waiting to be funded:
- works of installed art - spatial and planar works: sculpture, object, installation, wall painting or others, which are created for a specific urban or natural environment of the city;
– multimedia works – works that combine elements of various media: sound, video, movement or others;
- participatory and community art - community-oriented or dialogic art, created based on the practices of the community environment or generated by the community, including educational activities to deepen public understanding of art;
- other types of works of art - works of art created by means of modern technologies, original design projects.
The ideas of the contestants will be evaluated by an independent commission of experts, made up of competent specialists in fine arts, architecture, art studies, cultural heritage and other specialists known to the public.
The authors of the art project that received funding will undertake to implement it within 18 months at most. from the date of signing the contract.
Similar urban art support projects are being implemented in other cities famous for contemporary art - London, New York, Chicago and elsewhere.
