On Thursday, May 22, at 17 p.m., the first football field in Lithuania will be opened at the Mykola Biržiška Sports Field (Taikos St. 81) in Vilnius. The surface is 100 percent artificial, has an automated heating system, and is certified according to the highest international FIFA "Quality Pro" standard.
The 69 x 109 meter football field being opened is the first facility of its kind in the country, allowing for high-quality football even in adverse weather conditions – the surface is effectively heated at temperatures from -4 to +4 degrees. Next to the main field, renovated spaces have been installed for other sports – basketball, volleyball, badminton, track and field athletics and the rapidly growing popularity of pickleball. The new sports complex is one of the most important Vilnius city municipalities investment projects into modern sports infrastructure. The project was implemented by the Vilnius Development Company.
During the opening event, spectators will see an exhibition U-15 football match between the FK Žalgiris Academy and the Baltic Football Academy teams. The match will be commented live by sports journalist Arnas Šimonis.
Visitors are invited to get acquainted with the sports field infrastructure, try pickleball and other sports activities, and participate in games and quizzes with prizes. The atmosphere of the event will be created by DJ Edmontas from "RTA PRO", and guests of the event will be greeted by festive accents - wind chimes, active entertainment and a 360° video photo wall, where participants will be able to create a personal video memory.
Event free and open to everyone – students, their parents, members of the sports community, and all citizens who value an active lifestyle and high-quality public infrastructure are invited.
