The renovation of Vėtrungės Square is underway in the Lazdynai district. This project aims to renovate the public space at Architektų g. 19, highlighting its history and taking into account the current needs of residents. The first step is a meeting with the community.
April 1 at 18 p.m. A meeting with residents of the microdistrict will be held in the classroom of Vilnius Lazdynai School, where the boundaries of the territory to be managed will be identified, the square's development project will be presented, and renovation options, public expectations and needs will be discussed with residents.
The renovation of Vėtrungė Square aims to renew the square, giving it a new lease of life and ensuring that it becomes an attractive, accessible and functional public space where both local residents and visitors can gather. The first stage will include the maintenance of the square and its surroundings, and later, based on the opinions of residents, further work will be planned.
During the meeting, we invite you to share your ideas, needs and suggestions for the renovation of the square. Every resident can contribute to this important project, ensuring that this space is comfortable, attractive and meets all the expectations of the local community.
According to architectural historian Dr. Marija Drėmaitė, in the planning of the Lazdynai district, exceptional attention was paid to the design of public centers and public spaces. One of the most important spaces in the district is Vėtrungė Square, next to which stands the sculpture "Vėtrungė" created in 1973. The square was last maintained much longer ago and is now severely worn out.
Of all the public spaces in Lazdynai, the most famous has become the Erfurtas complex in the 1st microdistrict, with an alley leading to it. Residents remember that the current "Rimi Erfurtas" operating on the second floor of the shopping center restaurant was one of the most fashionable places of entertainment in Vilnius, and the nearby pedestrian alley was the place where all the excursions of foreigners coming to Lazdynai were conducted. To this day, a commemorative stone has survived in this alley, on which a plaque previously hung announcing the prestigious award received by the team of authors who created Lazdynai.
The dialogue with the public about the changes to the square was started a year ago, in the spring of 2024. When UAB "ID Vilnius" together with the Public Institution "Vilniaus miestos parkai" were preparing a plan for "soft" changes to the nearby alley, the condition of the square and the necessity of changes to it were discussed with the residents. After the alley was renovated in the summer of 2024, it was time for changes to the square.
Event is open to everyone – we invite you to participate and contribute to the creation of the project!
