Vilnius city municipality promises that after a new tender for the purchase of waste removal services, the price of this service will not change for the residents, reports the news portal 15min.lt on Monday.
A few weeks ago, the waste management companies "Ecoservce" and "VSA Vilnius" stated that their operations are unprofitable and they no longer want to manage garbage in Vilnius at the current prices. In the near future, the municipality will announce a new tender for the territories served by them.
"We see that these companies are strong, capable of handling waste properly and will be able to do so in the future, now they are able to do so and in some cases they do more than they should. We believe that we will fix that situation, maybe the zone will be redistributed a little, but everything will remain the same. The most important thing is that prices do not increase for Vilnius residents and they will not increase," said Povilas Poderskis, director of the municipality's administration.
In October of last year, Vilnius municipality signed five-year contracts with three companies for garbage removal - "Ekonovus", "Ecoservice" and "VSA Vilnius".
"Ecoservice" and "VSA Vilnius" are now managing waste in Verkii, Fabijoniškii, Žirmūnai, Šnipiškii, Antakalni, New Vilnius, the northern part of Rasai precinct, Pašilaičių, Justiniškii, Šeškina, Viršuliškii, Karoliniškii, Pilaitė, Lazdynii, Senamieti, Žvėryn, Naujamiesti and Vilkpėda in the precincts.
