Many residents of Vilnius look forward to having a picnic or a photo session under the sakura trees, taking a walk and admiring the pink Japanese cherry blossoms. The flowers are ready to bloom in Sugihara Sakura Park in Cijune.
Japanese cherry blossoms bloom in Sugihara Sakura Park in Čijunė, Vilnius in late April-early May. At the moment, the cherry blossoms are starting to bloom in the park, so the residents will soon enjoy their beloved spring entertainment.
Every year, city residents and guests gather en masse on the right bank of the Neris to see the blooming of the Japanese cherry trees. Since the weather in Lithuania is changeable, and recently not very encouraging, the cherry blossom park in Vilnius blooms later than in Japanese cities.
On October 2001, 2, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Chijune Sugihara, a Japanese diplomat who saved Jews, on the right bank of the Neris, near White bridge, next to the National Art Gallery, an avenue of 200 Japanese sakura trees has been planted. Last year, the park was added 17 new trees.
