The installation of this square will extend the maintenance of public spaces in Vilnius, of which this year there are as many as ever - as many as nineteen," says the mayor of Vilnius. The renovated Mortos street will become an integral part of the public space, ensuring convenient access to the square from Švitrigailas and T. Shevchenkos streets.
In Lithuania, there is still no public space devoted to the theme of firefighters, so the neighborhood of the square dictated the concept of its installation. Informational and educational activities will be carried out in the organized territory, visitors will get to know the work of firefighters: smoke detectors, a model of the fire truck's pump compartment, fire extinguishers, hydrants and the emergency services number 112.
Children's playground slides and other equipment are made according to the colors of the equipment used by firefighters. The sign of the Fire Protection and Rescue Department will be immortalized on its surface. There will be stands in the public space with textual information, which will also be presented in Braille and accessible via QR codes.
"This currently empty and inhospitable space will become exclusive and one of the most attractive in Vilnius in two years. Both seniors and little "firemen" will be able to spend their time meaningfully here. By developing this project, we are contributing to the mission of creating a city that is comfortable and attractive for people of all ages," says Laura Joffė, head of the Vilnius Development Company, which supervises the contract project.
The square's architectural solutions aim to make the managed territory more attractive by means of terrain formation and additional greenery: this will functionally and visually separate the zones, making a difference between the roadway and the newly formed zones. During the management of the territory, it is expected to be intensively greened.
The design work of the area improvement was carried out by "ID Vilnius". The project manager is the Vilnius development company.
