Between Upė, Geležinii Vilkas streets and Constitution Avenue "Beaminstalled a new underground rainwater treatment plant.
The rainwater collection basin, which includes the areas of Šeškinės, Fabijoniškiės, Pašilaičiai, Giedraičiai, Linkmenės and other streets, and the territories adjacent to them, is the most heavily loaded part of the surface wastewater network of the city of Vilnius. Rainwater collected here is discharged into the Neris River at the Geležinii Vilkos bridge. During the rains, the water flow collected here does not fit into the existing collectors, floods the streets, disrupts traffic, destroys roads and roadsides. Until now, a considerable part of the surface sewage discharged into Neri was untreated, often contaminated with suspended substances and oil products.
"The construction of the new sewage treatment plant is part of the huge reconstruction project of the surface wastewater collector at the entrances of Geležinis Vilkos Street and Šeškinės complex. During its implementation, it is planned to install as many as 9 rainwater treatment plants of different sizes, which will significantly contribute to improving the water quality of the Neris River. ", says Dalius Kuliešius, who is temporarily acting as the director of UAB Grinda.
The work was completed on time, according to the planned schedule.
The real beauty is underground
During the construction, new branches of the rainwater pipeline were installed, directing part of the flow from the Iron Wolf collector, which is heavily loaded during rains, to the treatment plant. In order to reduce traffic disruptions caused by construction in this area of high traffic intensity, part of the collector installation work was carried out by underground drilling (microtunneling) using the green lawn of the Konstitucijos transport ring. A total of 238,4 m of rainwater networks were laid.
A similar underground rainwater treatment plant has already been installed on Upės Street in the capital during the reconstruction of the stormwater system of T. Narbuto-Saltoniškių Streets. Another underground rainwater treatment plant recently started functioning on Neries street near the Valakampiai bridge.
The project of regional importance "Management of surface sewage systems in the city of Vilnius" is financed by the Cohesion Fund of the European Union, Vilnius city municipalities and UAB "Grinda" funds. The value of the entire project is 34,7 million. euros, its implementation is supervised by the Environmental Project Management Agency (APVA) of the Ministry of the Environment.
