Lithuanian National Museum chose the winner of the idea of perpetuating the memory of the rebels of 1863-1864 found on Gediminas Hill. It became "Architektūros linija" and the project "UŽLAISVĘE" presented by the architects. The monument should decorate the Gediminas kalnos square in the coming years.
The contract with the winner was signed on July 8. At the signing of the contract with LNM, "Architektūros linija" was represented by certified architect Gintaras Čikauskas.
A total of ten companies participated in the competition. They were not known to the museum until the winning idea was selected. The project proposals were analyzed and evaluated by the evaluation committee formed by the director of the museum, the public procurement commission invited the author of the idea to negotiate the price of the proposal and other conditions for the implementation of the project, in order to achieve the best result that meets the needs of the contracting organization specified in the project tender documents.
It is planned that the artistic idea dedicated to perpetuating the memory of the rebels could appear on the stone pavement of the central terrace of Gediminas Hill, without raising the memorial elements above the surface, or on the slope of the site covered with grass. One of the most important conditions of the competition is that the architectural elements of immortalization submitted by the companies must be in harmony with the surroundings of the Vilnius Upper and Lower Castles, and must not be dissonant with the structures of the Upper Castle.
"The evaluation commission evaluated the submitted design ideas according to the evaluation criteria established by the conditions of the public tender: 1863 - 1864 the historical contextuality of the means of memorializing the rebels; 1863 - 1864 the artistic value of the solutions of the architectural composition of the memorial of the rebels. The commission awarded the most points to the project "UZLAISVĘ", the author of which is Architecture Line", - reads the comment sent by the National Museum of Lithuania.
The composition "UZLAISVĘE", which received the most points from the commission, plans to integrate granite stone slabs with inscriptions of the names and surnames of the victims in the paving at the places where the remains of the rebels were discovered during archaeological research. Each panel will be highlighted with bands of light that serve not only a functional purpose, but also symbolize the eternal radiance of the light of freedom, emanating even from the depths of the earth. Next to the places where the remains are commemorated, an artistic and informational accent of an irrational direction has been designed, which tells about the exploits of the rebels. It is worth noting that the reminder text will be engraved on the accent in four languages: Lithuanian, English, Polish, Belarusian.
This is the third competition organized by LNM. No bids were received in the first, and no winner was selected during the second tender. Previously, it was expected that the artistic installation could decorate the Gediminas kalnos square already this year. Although the company will not be able to install the monument this year, it can be expected that in 2023 residents and guests of the city will be able to admire it.
"The contract stipulates that the Service Provider undertakes to provide services no later than 8 months from the date of entry into force of the contract", comments LNM.
The installation of the artistic installation will cost EUR 104.
