The historic Paupios district of the old town is opening more and more public spaces. A new central square with a dynamic fountain awaits the citizens and guests of the capital in the revived area.
The square, intended for meetings, rest and communication, is equipped with comfortable amphitheater benches, planted with trees, and it is planned that community events will also take place here events.
"When planning "Paupis", we paid special attention to public spaces that would be attractive not only to those who work and live here, but also to all visitors. The main square of the district together with the architect prof. In Gintarus Čaikauskus, we planned one that would be comfortable for everyone - both adults and children. That's why the main highlight of the square - the fountain - is kid-friendly," says Mantas Umbrasas, director of asset management at Darnu Group.

The fountain reflects the principles of the historical continuity of the part of the city
"During the preparation of the urban planning projects of the current construction, the idea arose to somehow revive the specific spirit of the place, where a straight canal was once dug that connected the bend of Vilnius and formed a kind of island. We sought to express the concept of the waterline using modern means. This idea gained its final expression when creating a vision of the city square, with the help of modern technologies, by placing dynamic streams of fountains parallel to Aukštaičiai street, reflecting the principles of historical continuity and exceptional specificity of this part of the city," says Prof. Gintaras Čaikauskas.
According to the architect, traditional urban planning principles are associated with the formation of public spaces and the volumes that gather around them. "This method is also coded in the revitalization solutions of "Paupio", the streets and arcades radiating towards Vilnius merge into the central square of the city. The space of the square, where the fountain line has become the main accent of art and meaning, is enriched with elements of small architecture: a symbolic amphitheater is formed, benches, plants, and lamps are placed," says the architect of the square.

Fountains always bring life to a space
"Fountains always bring life to the space, they become a center of attraction, where not only the elements of aesthetics, modernity, but also safety are important. There is no open water tank in the fountain. It has no visual pollution, as the modules are integrated in the pavement. When the fountain is not working, it is completely invisible and the space can be used for events and gatherings", notes Mantvydas Šakalys, the manager of UAB "Poolservice.LT", which installed the fountain.
The fountain forms vertical streams, their heights and the lighting of each stream create endless variations of the play of water and lighting. The highest current reaches 1,6 meters. The water circulation of the fountain reaches almost 66 cubic meters per hour.
In the central multi-purpose square of the "Paupio" district, there is already a coffee shop, a hairdresser, and soon an art gallery, a bookstore, and a bakery will be located here. Visitors to the square have a view of the "Paupio" public and business quarter, where not only offices are being built - the doors will open here restaurants, shops, a pharmacy, a bank service department, a cinema "Pasaka" and a new center of attraction for Vilnius residents - "Paupio turgus", where the best food producers will offer their products, various eateries and cafes, a gourmet food academy, various events will take place.
Soon, another industrial-style fountain will start operating in Paupyje, which has already been installed at the Paupio market, which will open its doors in the fall.
