Vilnius city municipality opens a new sports area for Vilnius residents - the Kaukysa sports field, located in Paplauja, right next to the Vilnela river that flows here. It is hoped that the renovated square on the side of the emerging residential area will not only serve residents who want to spend quality leisure time, but will also help bring the community together.
"Paupios, Paplaujas and Markučiai microdistricts form the new city center today. The goal of the capital is to make these districts not only a place to spend the night, but also a place where life boils. We want people not to have to leave their homes for entertainment, shopping, dining or physical activity. Therefore, when we found an abandoned stadium here, we didn't even doubt whether it needed repair. Now this sports space has been expanded and modernized. In addition, its "expiration period" has been extended - with the installation of lighting and artificial surfaces, it will be possible to do sports here much longer than usual," says the Vice Mayor of Vilnius. Valdas Benkunskas.
The field has a new artificial turf running track, a basketball court, an artificial grass soccer field and two new beach volleyball courts. A modern training area, a couple of pétanque courts and four table tennis and the same number of chess tables have been created nearby. And fans of racquet sports will be delighted with the capital's first public padel courts from now on.
The stadium is scheduled to be officially opened on September 14 at 18.30:XNUMX p.m. On the occasion of the opening celebration, the Vilnius City Municipality and the home cinema platform "ŽMONĖS Cinema" invite residents to a free open-air movie screening in the heart of the square. The program of the event includes the Swedish director Janus Metz's drama "Bjorn Borg vs. McEnroe", already loved by the audience, which will include one of the most famous Wimbledon matches of all time and introduce the event participants to the vicissitudes of the complex world of tennis.
"Behind the idea of the event is the desire to inspire residents to find themselves in sports and to encourage them to gather in this space. We want a strong, open and, of course, sporty community to develop here," he emphasizes V. Benkunskas.
"Pasaka" movie theater operating in Paupia was symbolically chosen as the partner of the event, and places were included restaurants and cafes. Therefore, for the convenience of the participants, not only an improvised cinema hall with an LED screen, but also a space for food and beverage vans will be located on the territory of the field. For those who are in an active mood, it will be possible to work out with the Vilnius sports school "Tauras" at the new sports field.
