Vilkpėda district of the capital is changing rapidly. One of the largest treatment and nursing hospitals located here is also awaiting renovation: the number of wards will be increased, the building will be insulated, and energy costs will be reduced.
During the public hearing, project proposals for the reconstruction of one of the largest supportive treatment and nursing hospitals in Lithuania were approved. After the reconstruction, the conditions for patients will improve in the hospital, the area allocated to one patient will increase and it will be possible to receive more of them. Electricity and heat energy costs will decrease: the roofs of the buildings will be insulated, doors and windows will be replaced, the foundations will be insulated, and a solar power plant will be installed on the roof.
Unused premises will be fixed during the reconstruction. They will be equipped with 4 double wards, 2 toilets adapted for people with special needs. All wards and offices will be equipped with an air-conditioning system to help endure the hot summers. With the installation of automatic doors, people with special needs will be able to move independently in the hospital.
Waterproofing and insulation of part of the foundation and plinth of the building will also be carried out. The roofs of the buildings will be repaired, the roof coverings will be insulated, heat pumps will be installed, and the windows and exterior doors of all buildings will be replaced.
A 30 kW solar power plant will appear on the roof of the building. Changing the lighting to energy-saving LED lamps will reduce electricity costs. The installation of a 100 kW autonomous generator will ensure uninterrupted working conditions. An electric car charging station with two charging points will appear in the yard.
Estimated cost of reconstruction - 2,8 million. Eur, the start of contract work is planned for the second half of next year.
Vilkpėdė Hospital is associated with the establishment of the Petersburg-Warsaw railway line. The railway was serviced by a number of workers, and a need arose for a hospital. A new hospital was being built for them and the military Wolffoot. The construction of the hospital took place between 1905 and 1911, and the building was opened in 1912. and had 150 seats. 1912-1953 it was called "Vilnius of the station hospital". During the Polish occupation, 4291 patients were treated at the hospital. During the Hitler occupation, the Italian soldiers of Germany's allies were stationed in the hospital. Underground explosives warehouses were installed in the yard of the hospital. After the Second World War, the institution began to expand. Significant changes took place in 1985. – Departments of pulmonology, cardiology, gastroenterology, neurology, otorhinolaryngology, ophthalmology and pediatrics have been established in the 300-bed hospital. The last reconstruction of the building was carried out sixteen years ago - in 2006. The buildings are registered in the Register of Immovable Cultural Heritage.
Today, services can be provided to 285 patients at the same time in the three supportive treatment and nursing departments of the Vilkpėdė hospital.
