On Wednesday evening, the street gang in Vilnius significantly increased the number of people applying to the Republic of Vilnius University Hospital (RVUL) due to various injuries.
According to RVUL, until Thursday morning at 7 o'clock. more than 200 injured persons have already sought emergency help - twice as many as usual. Of these, 174 suffered various limb injuries (fractures, sprains, dislocations, contusions) and 32 head and neck injuries.
"We are working extremely intensively and are ready to increase our forces if necessary. Currently, the wards of the Orthopedics and Traumatology Center are filled with patients who need surgical treatment, the head of the Emergency Department, Paulius Uksas, is quoted in the press release.
The doctor fears that he will have to deal with a large flow of patients on Thursday as well, because it is already around 8 am. a queue of people waiting for an orthopedic traumatologist consultation has started to form, so the waiting time for the examination will be longer than usual.
However, although patients are flocking to hospitals in Vilnius, according to the Emergency Medical Service (EMS), the number of calls throughout Lithuania has not changed drastically.
"We can see the nature of the calls and the weather didn't have much of an impact. We don't see any more significant injuries. There is no very big change, maybe only a few more calls in general", representatives of GMP said to Eltai.
