According to architectural historian dr. Marijos Drėmaitė, during the planning of the Lazdynai district, special attention was paid to the design of public centers and public spaces. It was planned that the most important trade and service centers Lazdynas will connect pedestrian alleys, making it possible to make daily trips on foot.
Of all the public spaces of Lazdyna, the complex "Erfurtas" located in the 1st micro-district with the alley leading to it became the most famous and important. Residents remember that the current "Rimi Erfurtas" operating on the second floor of the shopping center restaurant was one of the most fashionable places to have fun in Vilnius, and the nearby pedestrian alley was where all foreign tours coming to Lazdyni were held.
A memorial stone has been preserved in this alley until our time, on which a plaque previously hung announcing the prestigious award received by the collective of authors who created Lazdynis. Also, next to the former "Erfurt", the most important artistic highlight of the 1973st micro-district stands unchanged - Teodoros Kazimieros Valaitis's XNUMX painting. the sculpture "Vētrungė" was created, but the decorative pool surrounding it no longer works.
Both the square near "Vētrungė" and the pedestrian alley still serve the people of Lazdyna as important public spaces of the district. True, their condition is different. In the alley, the "hard" infrastructure has already been updated in the last few years: pavements and stairs have been replaced, lighting has been expanded. At that time, the square surrounding "Vētrungė" was last cleaned much earlier and is very worn out - which has been pointed out by local residents more than once.
in 2024 Vilnius city municipalities on the order of UAB "ID Vilnius" together with VšĮ "Vilnius miesto parkai" is preparing a renovation project for the square and alley. With the help of small and quick "soft" changes (e.g. greenery and outdoor furniture), the aim is to turn the alley from a transit space into a place where various groups of residents would like to stay longer and spend time. The first works in the alley are planned to be implemented this year in the form of simple repairs. "Vētrungė" square requires bigger changes and investments, so its reconstruction will take longer, this year it is only planned to start this process.
We invite residents of Lazdyna who are concerned about the future of "Vētrungė" square and pedestrian alley to a two-part creative workshop.
At the first meeting with the residents April 3 17:30 p.m. we will be looking for ideas to make these spaces cozier and greener, and in 3 weeks April 24 17:30 p.m. during the second meeting, we will discuss the initial project prepared according to the residents' suggestions. Both meetings will take place at Lazdynai secondary school (Žēručio str. 4, room 004 on the first floor)
