A competition organized by the Public Management Agency Vilnius city municipalities Laura Kairienė won the position of chief architect of the administration.
"City manager the architect's duties oblige him to create Vilnius in such a way that it is convenient for residents, businesses, and attractive for guests of the capital. Finding the best solutions for issues of spatial planning or green landscape in the rapidly growing capital city is a challenge that contains a lot of ambition and creativity. For the new city manager an architect will certainly not lack such challenges, but an open and flexible approach to the problems existing in the capital will help create a comfortable city for all its residents", said Adomas Bužinskas, director of the Vilnius City Municipality Administration.
L. Kairienė has a master's degree in urban planning and business management. She studied in Lithuania and Italy, worked in the private sector for more than 10 years. The architect, who has more than 13 years of experience in the field of territorial design and planning, has worked for the last two years as the head of the capital. advisor to architect M. Pakalnis. After he left office, a tender was announced at the beginning of autumn.
"In times of rapid changes, Vilnius must maintain its identity. The capital accommodates both the culture of the baroque old town and numerous green spaces, as well as the rapidly rising business and residential districts built in the Soviet era. The way Vilnius is changing is important for everyone who lives there, so the team and I will strive to establish a closer relationship with the citizens, create an even more open city and lead the capital towards sustainable architectural progress", said L. Kairienė.
In the final stage of the competition, the commission evaluated three candidates.
